This Way to the Heroes: a Trade Post

Before we get to the PWE's I received recently, a very famous baseball card was featured recently on the new Looney Tunes Show.  I took a picture of the screen:

I know it's tacky to snap a picture of the television - maybe I just wanted it to be the top picture in this post.  I also used to tape songs off the radio.  Yeah, I'm way old.

I have been lax in my trading/mailing/blogging duties these past few weeks as I overhaul the way my collection is assembled.  It was getting complicated and kind of not fun, so changes were needed.  I'll go into those later - for now, here are the great cards I received from some awesome fellow bloggers:

First up, Mark from This Way to the Clubhouse sent me a PWE with these in it:

What a sweet design.  I was definitely missing this one.

The superman card

The hero shot - one of his best.

Man, do I ever love coming home to an envelope full of cards.  Thanks, Mark!  Your blog remains awesome.....

Jeff of 2 x 3 Heroes also sent me some Griffey goodness, including one I didn't even know I was missing:

I thought I had all these - two of my favorite players.  Great card....

Also these - that may be my favorite Senior card.  Sure beats the '89 Bowman television one.  Blech.

Jeff's blog is also among the best, so you should read it, consarnit.....

Thanks, Jeff!

Jedi Jeff Jettisons Juniors to Junkie - Junkie Jumps for Joy

I got a PWE from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes that was loaded with class, history, fun, and mystery, in that order.

Take a look:

Class

I'll admit that I've never been big on the Allen & Ginter cards.  I was raised on the sparkly, the glossy, and the refract-y.  But after 6 months of being back in the game, they are definitely growing on me.

That being said, these black bordered minis are super-classy.  The detail is great on a card so small and the design is attractive and timeless.  Awesome card.

History

Victory is another set I've never really taken a shine to.    They seem so plain and unremarkable compared with all the great stuff out there.

The specimen above is the exception.  It's a well put-together card with a lot of historical clout.  Daddy like.

Fun

The modern takes on antique designs are one of my favorite trends going on.  I really enjoy the Topps Heritage sets as well at the '75 minis in the 2013 flagship set.  I find them cool and instantly likeable.  This particular card is a lot of fun.

One question: Is that a batter at 3rd base?

Mystery

Which brings us to the mystery part of this PWE.  Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you, Jeff, in not knowing why this card made it into the stack.  I must admit though, it's a pretty baddass card - certainly one of the better "play at the plate" cards I've seen from the peak of the overproduction era.

Plus the 10 year-old Braves fan in me likes seeing Kelly Gruber get dirty (even though he's probably safe).

Thanks for the great cards!

Mr. Postman, Look and See - Is There a Griffey in That Bag for Me?

The fruits of blogging, hours of organizing thousands of old cards by team, then mailing all those cards are being felt over at the Junior Junkie today!

Jeff from 2x3 Heroes bombarded me with a 200-megaton hydrogen Griffey-bomb.

This WMG (weapon of mass Griffeyness) has irradiated the entire region with incomparable baseball skill, goatee-moustaches and general awesomeness.

Some of these I have never even seen before.  Lots of excellent additions to the collection.....
The Griffeys have landed
When I saw the card on the bottom right, I gasped aloud.  It's hard for any Griffey fan to look at this image.
I love that shot of Griffey giving daps....

Griffey played for the White Sox one time for like 45 minutes.  Still strange to me seeing him in a black cap and baggy jersey.

Both versions!  Woo-hoo!

Nick, this is the card I was telling you about on your cartoon card post....

Thanks so much for the giant stack of Griffeys, Jeff!  I could hardly wait to upload them to the blog.

Also, I got a PWE (my first ever!) from Dime Box Nick that contained the refracty version of this:

Regular banner + refractiness = Nick must have pulled this from a rack pack.

Everyone knows how awesome Nick is, so I don't have to tell you.  Thanks for thinking of me, man!  I've been chomping at the bit waiting to pull this card.  Looks great!

In closing, I'd like to share with you a little saying we have over here at the Junior Junkie:

Griffeys for me,
Griffeys for you.
I like Griffeys
in a big, brown shoe.

This saying has never rung truer than it does today.

Now, my wife and I are going to strategically park a car filled with chairs and ice chests just off the Endymion parade route as it rolls tomorrow afternoon.  You Mardi Gras long enough, you learn a few tricks.....  I'll be reading tomorrow's baseball card blog posts from the neutral ground on Canal St., beer in hand.

Have a great weekend!
