I’ve been
meaning to do a giveaway for some time, and I just found an excuse. I started The Junior Junkie on December 14th
of last year, and it seems that on August 2nd of this year this blog
got its 20,000th view. That
seems like a reasonable excuse.
So what am I
giving away? Why none other than the
greatest of all modern baseball cards:
The 1989
Upper Deck #1 Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card.
And how do you win this
cardboard gem?
Simply tell me why you like Ken Griffey, Jr.
in three sentences. That’s it. E-mail your submissions to me at TJV504 at
GMAIL dot COM by Saturday August 17th, 2013 at midnight central time.
I’ll go
through the submissions over the next few days and choose the best three. The grand prize winner will get the
goods. I’ll also be selecting a 2nd
and 3rd place winner because there are some very talented wordsmiths
in this blogosphere, and I already know it will be tough to pick a winner. All three winners will receive prizes
tailored to their tastes in cardboard.
The
rules:
You can
write in any format you like, be it a plain old paragraph, a poem, a sonnet, a
haiku, a limerick, whatever. Anything is
fine with me.
I’m imposing
a three-sentence limit on what you write, and you are allowed to abuse this
rule to your liking. Seriously, go nuts
with sentence length all you want, but be warned! The longer the sentence the more of a grammar
stickler I’ll be. No dangling
participles or punctuated independent clauses separated by coordinating
conjunctions without a semicolon and so forth.
If you make 250 words fit into one sentence and there is a single comma
out of place, I’ll find it! On the other
hand if your submission is very short but incredibly poignant, I’ll let bad
grammar slide. Exceptions may be made
for wacky e. e. cummings-style poetry and rambling Faulknerian prose - those
will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
Please don’t
plagiarize and also try to limit your quoting - I want to see some original
stuff here!
Make sure
you include your mailing address and the address of your blog if you have one
with your submission. Also let me know
what you collect (teams would be ideal) if I don’t already know you.
Also be
aware that I reserve the right to post your submissions with appropriate credit
given in a future post of The Junior Junkie for everyone to see.
Win or lose,
if your submission makes me cry I’ll send you five bucks no questions asked.
That’s
it! I look forward to reading your stuff. Good luck!
Posts that I write in MS Word and copy over to Blogger always have a ton of spaces that weren't there before, even when I change to default font and size. Whatup with that?
